Although not a technical medical condition, a broken heart may be what ultimately caused the death of Simon Monjack, the screenwriter/producer husband of the late actress Brittany Murphy.

December seemed to hit the 39-year-old Monjack pretty hard. At present, the preliminary cause of death has been determined to be natural causes, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, pending an autopsy and a rendering of the official cause of death by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. And what is more natural than a broken heart?

Brittany Murphy's death came as a shock not only to her husband but to the movie industry. She was only 32. Speculation about a drug overdose or some type of eating disorder vanished after the official Coroner's Office final autopsy listed the cause of death as pneumonia complicated by acute anemia. Although preventable and treatable, Murphy's death was ruled as accidental.

Simon Monjack was found dead in his Los Angeles home Sunday night by firefighters responding to the 911 call made by Sharon Murphy, Brittany Murphy's mother, who found the body in the master bedroom. Sharon Murphy lived in the home with her daughter and Monjack. Since no sign of foul play or criminal activity could be determined, the LAPD turned the body over to the Coroner's Office for their investigation.

Simon Monjack physical appearance after the death of his wife in December was hard on him. Three months after the actress had been found unresponsive in the shower by her mother, Monjack allowed a website into his home and even allowed them to film the room where Murphy had died. Monjack said the room had not been touched since the actress had died. In the interview, Monjack appeared unshaven, unkempt, looking as if he had gained a considerable amount of weight since his wife's passing.

Murphy Brittany : Death Investigation Underway after Flu-Like Symptoms

A significant amount of perscription drugs was reportedly recovered from the home of actress Brittany Murphy who has died at 32 after suffering a heart attack.

An autopsy may be performed today. An investigator from L.A. County Coroner's office is scheduled to interview attending physicians as well as Monjack and Murphy's mother, Sharon.

A rep for the LAPD confirms to UsMagazine.com, "There is a death investigation involving the actress Brittany Murphy," with a full statement expected later on.

Murphy's family has released the following statement: "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy."

Upon hearing the tragic news, Murphy's estranged father, Angelo Bertolotti, told the Associated Press, "she was just an absolute doll since she was born...Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her."

Bertolotti, a former mob member who served prison time on federal drug charges, hadn't seen his daughter in several years. "She was just so talented," he said. "I loved her very much."

Brittany has died of natural causes and has had health issues in the past with asthma and diabetes from my understanding. I would ask that people be respectful of the family, especially her fantastic mother, Sharon. My prayers go out to Brittany and her loved ones during this horrible tragedy.

Paramedics who arrived on the scene concluded she was in full cardiac arrest and immediately performed CPR. They continued in the ambulance and all the way to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival(DOA).

The Los Angeles police department is investigating her untimely death. Brittany’s representative released the following statement: “In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy.”

Brittany Murphy has died early this morning immediately after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources report.

A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reported.

Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival(DOA).

Brittany Murphy starred in such films as "8 mile" "Clueless" and "Don't Say a Word."

Brittany Murphy was only 32.
